Concerns regarding your child’s hearing?
At High Tone Hearing we offer pediatric hearing evaluations and comprehensive assessments to assess your child’s auditory abilities. These evaluations, also known as ‘hearing tests’ or ‘audiograms’, are conducted by our expert audiologists. Together, our Doctors of Audiology bring over 35 years of experience helping children hearing their best.
The goal of a pediatric hearing evaluation is to find out how well your child hears and to make sure their hearing supports healthy speech, language and learning.
Our audiologists use specialized, age-appropriate tests to measure the softest sounds your child can hear at different pitches and to check for any type or degree of hearing loss.
Because every child is unique, we tailor the evaluation to your child’s age, developmental level, and comfort. The results give you clear answers about your child’s hearing and guide us in recommending the best next steps - whether that’s continued monitoring, medical treatment, or hearing support if needed.
What to Expect
Visiting High Tone Hearing for a pediatric hearing evaluation is a gentle, non-invasive process designed to give you clear answers about your child’s hearing. Our goal is to keep your child comfortable while gathering accurate information about how well they hear.
Here’s what you can expect during your child’s visit:
Case history
We’ll talk with you about your child’s birth history, ear infections, speech and language development, and any family history of hearing loss or concerns you’ve noticed.Ear check (otoscopic examination)
We’ll look inside your child’s ears with a small light to make sure everything looks healthy and clear.Age-appropriate hearing tests
Infants
We use gentle, objective tests like otoacoustic emissions (OAE) or auditory brainstem response (ABR), which measure how your baby’s ears and hearing nerve respond to sound—no response from your child is needed.
Toddlers and preschoolers
We make hearing testing into a game! Using visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA) or play audiometry, your child learns to respond to sounds with fun activities like turning toward lights or dropping toys in a bucket.
School-age children
Older children wear headphones in a sound booth and raise their hand or press a button when they hear a beep, just like adults.Speech testing
When appropriate, we’ll see how well your child can hear and understand speech at different volume.
